Term Spotlight: ST-Series Bulb Vintage-Style LED

Also known as “Edison bulbs” or “vintage-style” lamps, the ST19 is a classic slightly tubular shape that tapers toward the base. While they largely fell out of popularity in favor of what we think of as a traditional bulb, the A-series, they are seeing a resurgence in popularity. Today’s ST bulbs almost exclusively feature either an incandescent or LED filament. They are used primarily for decorative purposes and impart a touch of class to any fixture into which they’re installed.

The light bulb goes back much farther than Thomas Edison. In 1761, Ebenezer Kinnersley demonstrated heating a wire to incandescence. Ever since then people have been working to improve upon that design. While Edison may not have invented the concept of the light bulb, he was the first to create a commercially viable light. One that didn’t cost too much to produce and that lasted long enough to be viable for businesses and eventually private citizens to purchase, install, and replace.

Today’s ST lamps harken back to Edison’s original design not only in the shape of their glass bulb, but also in their use of over-pronounced filaments that glow and show off their internal structure. Recent advances in LED technology now allow LEDs to closely mimic the thin glowing filaments associated with these vintage-style bulbs while consuming much less energy and producing brighter, better quality light.

Sunlake’s ST19 offers best-in-class lighting and quality backed by a 10-year warranty. These wet-rated bulbs are perfect for nearly any indoor or outdoor fixture. Sunlake Lighting also offers standard A-series and candelabra B-series bulbs with the same vintage-style filament look.
