Getting Better Light with Fewer Lumens: The Benefits of LED
Most people are used to thinking of brightness in terms of watts. A 40-watt bulb is less bright than a 60-watt bulb. The watt has been an easy way to think about brightness and power because the wattage correlates to the brightness while also hinting at the power draw a giving bulb will have and, therefore, how much it will cost to run that bulb. LEDs can produce better, brighter light using fewer watts. Often LEDs have “wattage equivalents” printed on their packaging so that the customer can ap

Vintage Style LED Edison Bulbs Are All the Rage
If you’ve been to a wedding, gala, new restaurant, or even a party in someone’s backyard, you’ve likely witnessed one of the latest trends in lighting: the Edison bulb. These bulbs are typically oversized, but don’t have to be. Their biggest distinguishing feature is that they are clear with large, decorative filaments. Proper LED Disposal: Not as Hard as You Think
It is often the case that new technologies create new problems. The benefits are, if not outweighed, at least mitigated by the detriments. Big advances like the internet and nuclear power have some undeniable benefits, while also causing their fair share of problems. Before the internet, cybercrimes were quite literally unthinkable and while nuclear power eliminates the air pollution of coal-burning plants, the resulting toxic waste requires proper disposal.Fortunately not all new technologies h

LED Term Spotlight: CRI and Why It Matters
The Color Rendering Index (CRI) is a scale from 0 to 100 percent that indicates how accurate a given light source (e.g., an LED bulb) is at rendering color when compared to a reference light source (e.g., the sun). Basically, if you were outside on a sunny day, you’d be looking at an object with 100% CRI. So the CRI rating tells you how close to sunlight your bulb’s light is at rendering color. It’s worth noting that CRI is independent of color temperature. A “warmer,” more yellowish LED light wi
