LED Spotlight: Trendy Bathroom Lighting Ideas

Bathrooms, like kitchens, are likely the most specialized rooms in your home. The lighting you need in the bathroom is going to necessarily differ from the lighting you need in other parts of your home. Lighting in a bathroom is truly all about you. Kitchen lighting is about preparing food, sharing meals, and cleaning up. Living room lighting is about seeing the other people in the room with you, playing games, watching TV, or reading. But the bathroom is where you get to focus on yourself. Get refreshed. Get ready for a night out or a quiet evening in. So unlike other rooms in your home, the lighting in the bathroom needs to highlight its most important feature: you.

The mirror

The bathroom is where people spend the most time looking at themselves. Shaving, putting on makeup, skincare routines, styling hair, all these daily tasks require using the bathroom mirror and they require good, clear lighting. The tried and true methods for lighting subjects in mirrors still apply today and LED technology has allowed for even more ways to light your face in the mirror. Here at SunLake our favorite is still the bare-bulb sconce featuring globe-shaped LED bulbs. But there are many ways to illuminate your face in the mirror while staying on trend. There are even mirrors with LEDs integrated into the mirror itself.

Chandeliers

We’ve said it before: chandeliers are making a comeback, and not just in the dining room. Bathrooms, especially larger bathrooms with higher ceilings, are perfect candidates for a nice chandelier. We recommend using SunLake’s wet-rated B11 filament bulbs in these fixtures to avoid any potential damage to the bulbs from the dampness in the bathroom.

Sconces

Stylish wall sconces lend a touch of flair to your bathroom. Most useful flanking the mirror to better illuminate your face, they can also be used elsewhere (preferably where they won’t be doused with water) to provide additional indirect ambient light. Brass finishes in lighting fixtures are very “in” for the 2020s and there is a plethora of brass sconce fixtures in a variety of styles to match and enhance any bathroom.

Recessed lighting

A popular, beautiful, and useful means of illuminating a tub or shower is with recessed lighting installed directly overhead. These fixtures are often exposed to a great deal of moisture from the rising water vapor from hot baths and showers. SunLake’s retrofit recessed can downlights are wet-rated specifically for this reason.

Skylights

Not everyone is going to have the means or ability to install a skylight in their bathroom, but skylights are a wonderful way to add lots of natural light to your space. Feel like you’re just that much closer to nature with views of the sky or the trees that overhang your home. Skylights will also help keep your energy costs down by providing light during the day and eliminating the need to turn on lights while the sun is out.

Far from a purely utilitarian room, the bathroom has become a showcase for your style. The variety of fixtures, features, tiles, wall coverings, and linens allow for infinite iterations and possibilities in your space. SunLake carries a variety of LED bulbs and integrated fixtures to help you define your style. What follows is just a small selection of our favorite bulbs for bathroom fixtures.
