LED Spotlight: Hot Bedroom Lighting Ideas
Sep 17th 2020
Your home is a tangible expression of yourself and your style - an intimate glimpse into the things that are important to you - and your bedroom is likely the culmination of precisely those values. Your bedroom is where you’re at your most vulnerable - it’s where you spend multiple hours unconscious, restoring your energy, getting ready to face the next day and the next challenge. It’s obvious then that your bedroom should be a calm, comfortable place. That comfort comes from how your room feels. Your bedroom should be a room you enjoy inhabiting where walking through the door is like breathing a sigh of relief. The right lighting can help accomplish this.
There are as many different bedrooms as there are homes in the world. Each one is different because each is a reflection of an individual’s tastes and preferences. One thing they all have in common is lighting. All bedrooms should have it - and should have various lighting layers and options to provide the right light for the time of day, task at hand, and reflection of the occupant’s style.
Bedroom lighting, much like lighting in the rest of the house, has evolved in recent years. The improvements in LED technology have ushered in many more options for lighting than were ever possible before. More than that, as tastes in lighting change, so do their applications in nearly every room of the house. For example, whereas previously you may only encounter a chandelier in the dining room, they can now be found in just about every room except perhaps a closet - and even then, a sufficiently large walk-in closet may very well have one.
Here are just a few of the hottest, and some of our favorite, lighting trends and layers we have been seeing pop up recently.
Chandeliers
Previously if someone mentioned a chandelier in a bedroom it would conjure images of the baroque palaces of Europe or ostentatious displays of wealth in American mansions. Rarely would you picture a humble bungalow with a chandelier in the bedroom. Nowadays, however, chandeliers come in all shapes and sizes and are no stranger to even the most modest bedrooms.
Reading lights
Reading lights are nearly as synonymous with bedrooms as the very beds themselves. Whether you use them for reading or not, these small, versatile lamps provide comfortable task lighting and diffuse ambient lighting. They are often controlled at the lamp itself, meaning you don’t have to get out of bed to switch them on and off. It’s impossible to list all the different kinds of reading lights here, but whatever lamp you choose, whether it sits on a table or stands on the floor, SunLake has the LED bulbs you need for the perfect color temperature and energy savings.
Recessed lighting
Recessed lighting in the bedroom allows for lots of ambient light from very low-profile fixtures. These unobtrusive lights provide tons of light while blending into the ceiling, allowing other features to stand out. Whether that’s another impressive but less bright light fixture, a piece of art, some interesting architectural feature, or the view from your windows. Using SunLake’s recessed can housings with our dimmable BR-series bulbs is a great option for this clean, modern look.
LED bed accents
We have to admit, we kinda low-key love this trend of lighting the space under the bed. On the downside, it will highlight all the dust bunnies under there, but on the plus side, it will make you clean under your bed more, which is probably better for your allergies anyway if we’re being honest.
Cove and soffit lighting
This may very well be our favorite lighting trend in general and especially for bedrooms. This soffit and cove lighting technique brings a whole new meaning to the term “layered lighting” truly highlighting the various architectural layers in your room.
Wall sconces
Never underestimate the power of quality wall sconces paired with SunLake LED bulbs. Sconces may have fallen out of favor in recent decades but, much like chandeliers, they’re back in force. The variety of styles, finishes, and sizes mean you can find precisely the sconce that speaks to you and your room’s expression. Sconces provide beautiful diffused ambient light. They can also double as reading lights. There’s also a growing segment of moveable sconces that don’t require you to rewire your room, instead they simply hang on the wall and plug into a nearby outlet. These are great for apartments or other spaces where you don’t have the ability to get into invasive (and costly) rewiring jobs.
